Bjarke Regn Svendsen (b. 1949). Visual artist. Bjarke made his debut at the Artists' Autumn Exhibition in 1973.
Bjarke Regn Svendsen's starting point is neorealism – strongly inspired by the American "superrealism", which among other places - was shown at Louisiana in 1972. Bjarke states in connection with the exhibition that "My starting point is neorealism, strongly inspired by the American 'superrealism', which was shown at Louisiana in 1972.
I started with banal sections of facades of buildings in Aarhus and other major cities. Subsequently, I have followed my own path through a great interest in, among other things, pointillism, inspired both by the old masters, raster images and by the somewhat simplified reproductions of the old TV sets. Later the blurry photograph came as a model. Here, the inspiration from Gerhard Richter has been crucial. The "failed" photograph often contains a nerve and something unfathomable that is not always found in the perfect.
The town of Tistrup, where I have lived since 1976, has continuously provided inspiration for many pictures. So have various visits and stays abroad, from New York and Japan to Paris, Athens and Italy. In recent years, I have resumed my previous interest in both new and older photos from various trips, which had been well stored on the computer. With a freer attitude to both colors and similarity, these motifs are hopefully conveyed both a painterly presence and at the same time a distance."
